Hailey's Procedure

Praising God tonight! Hailey's procedure went really well. She is no longer tongue tied! It wasn't as traumatic for her as I had imagined~ she was more upset about being held in place than the actual cutting.

It was traumatic for Mama, but thankfully Tom was there to shoulder that too. I must be the least brave person I know when it comes to blood and such. It seems funny to me that God would choose me to have surgery and procedures that involve blood. Guess He is keeping me close that way.

Thank you for praying!

P.S. So fun to see Hailey become part of the family. She is rarely put down even for naps. We are all just enjoying her too much. Here is Faithie reading one of her Castleberry Farm Mystery books with little Hailey.

MORE INFORMATION ON TONGUE-TIED INFANTS:

According to our on-line research, and in speaking with our pediatrician, we learned the following:

If your infant is tongue-tied, ask to be referred to an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) specialist. Pediatricians normally have little to no experience performing this procedure, while an ENT will do this routinely.

Why we opted to do the procedure now: 1) We wanted to nurse; 2) For an infant it is a simple procedure- the skin is thin so it is a quick snip, Hailey won't even remember it; 3) We didn't want to create a problem later. At about age 3, when a tongue-tied child begins to develop a speech problem, the skin will have thickened, then the procedure turns into an operation with general anesthesia. Our desire was to avoid additional trauma and potential danger.

We hope this will be a help to you.

  1. Hey! That is great news! I'm so glad it went well for her. I think watching your child go thru anything that could be painful for bloody is always harder on the mama. I'm glad Tom was there - whew!

  2. Oh, praise God for a successful procedure! Ditto what Kristi said, watching is the worst.

  3. This photo reminds me of the first "Socialization" photo I posted. So, so sweet when these older ones include even the littlest!

  4. Kristi and Cheryl~ Thanks! I'm glad it's over. I didn't want to watch, but then my desire to protect her MADE me watch. Tom did the hard part though. He held her steady.

Kendra! I thought the exact same thing. This is true socialization. : ) Boy we're blessed.
